Soooo there are hidden dangers to sunless tanning. I mean wow, fuming but ok will deal with that, read more about the dangers here or just believe me and read on for a tan review.
The biggest issue with false tans is the DHA, so I am on the hunt for a safe to my skin false tan, rather than using a tan with an artificially created DHA, I’ve been trialling a false tan that contains a naturally sourced DHA, to be on the safe side. I’ve been using He Shi Rapid 1 Hour Liquid Tan, bonus points to He Shi for being vegan and cruelty free.
He Shi tan, was a little bit more expensive than ones I would usually try. It has been difficult to switch to a lifestyle that is not as abundant in budget products as I’m used to. That was always my “thing”, oooo sale, bargain…BUY! It’s about £15 for 150ml, or £36.99 for 300ml, when you can get other tans for £3 a piece. But my health is my wealth, cosmetics and tanning is my favourite, so I bought it!
I have done so far, three full body applications, and I am about 1/3 of the way through a bottle. The liquid consistency is as thin as water, its doesn’t have much of a smell at all, upon application or during development. Although I purchased the one hour rapid formula, I’ve left it on overnight for depth of colour. I think after one hour it would wash off a really lovely shade, as it applies really naturally, dries very fast and develops quickly. I have found with all tans that I’ve ever used, so much of the guide colour washes off, I end up disappointed, not with this tan though! The guide colour is really quite true to what colour develops and very little washes off in the shower. The tan itself makes some bold claims, “He-Shi Express Liquid Tan is a quick and easy-to-apply self tanning bronzer that tans on contact giving an instant golden colour which will last up to 7-10 days.” Not going to lie, I found that the colour starts to fade after about three days, and by day five, it gets a bit patchy, which is strange because it really is quite difficult to remove without a good soak and a rough scrub.
These pictures are completely unedited to ensure they’re as true to real life as possible, yes I am practically transparent. Because I am making smarter choices for my health, I would definitely repurchase this tan, as unlike other tans, it did not give me a migraine, or make me feel really strange during the night. I will save this tan for special occasions, because of the price, how it wears, and how lovely the colour is, it will be my treat tan, but not my go to for all the time use. If you’re looking for a vegan, cruelty free, paraben free, low toxin tan, this is well worth a try.
